Referees
To be a 2013 RDSA, USSF Grade 9 recreational referee, you must be at least 14 years of age - RDSA REQUIRES REFS BE ENTERING THE 9th GRADE -; and all candidates also must successfully complete the USSF Referee training program, a 9-hour (one day) training course conducted by the New Jersey Referee Association. Candidates must pass a test at the end of the course to become certified.
 
To be USSF Grade 8 referee (for reffereeing both Rec and Travel/Club Soccer Games), you must be at least 14 years of age; and also must successfully complete the USSF Referee training program, a 16-hour (three days) training course conducted by the New Jersey Referee Association. Candidates must pass a test at the end of the course to become certified.
 
Classes in NY are listed at http://www.eny-soccer-referees.org/calendar.html.  Local classes in NJ (the classroom portion) will be 8/3-4 in Hasbrouck Heights and 8/24-25 in Lyndhurst; there are others further away, with Edison on 7/27-28 and 8/10-11 being the closest.  These classes will be open for registration shortly and can be found at http://www.njrefs.com/BecomingaReferee/.  Anyone interested should sign up early as classes tend to fill very quickly.
These classes are for those interested in refereeing Travel/Club games (Grade 8).  For more information on these and course for refereeing Rec level (the 1 day course for Grade 9), please visit the NJ Refs website.
